Located on the site of the former 1931 Ford Dealership and Garage, the tower is part of an adaptive reuse initiative to transform a once-blighted radiator shop into a vibrant modern live/work space. It’s a place that tells a story, from its Civil War inspiration to its compact yet luxurious design.
One of the most compelling things about the Tensas Tower is its name—and the legacy behind it. The structure pays homage to the USS Tensas, a Civil War-era shipwreck discovered nearby during the development of the adjacent Bayou Teche waterfront. The influence is unmistakable: the largest balcony, with its ship’s bow-like shape, creates a dramatic lookout point where guests can savor sweeping views of both sunrise and sunset.
This industrial nautical architecture theme continues throughout the tower, bringing with it a sense of place deeply tied to South Louisiana’s maritime and industrial heritage. It’s not just a vacation rental—it’s a living museum of creativity and resilience.
Spanning a modest 1,290 square feet, the Tensas Tower is a contemporary model of compact yet sustainable residential architecture. There’s plenty of outdoor seating on the balcony, ideal for relaxing with a morning coffee or an evening drink while watching the bayou shift with the light.
Now, a note of realism: the staircase is small and a bit steep, which is part and parcel of such a vertical, compact structure. I’d recommend packing light or using a soft bag rather than traditional luggage—it’ll make the vertical journey much easier. But honestly, that’s a small trade-off for what you get in return.
